A picture is worth a thousand words? Investigating the Impact of Image Aids in AR on Memory Recall for Everyday Tasks

This paper has people place objects around an AR environment, take a short break, then try to remember where everything went. Some get text clues, some images, and some both; the image-plus-text combo helps people recall the scene more accurately. So yes, the screenshot you attach when asking an AI a question may be doing more cognitive heavy lifting than it gets credit for.

Three HCI connections I kept spotting: the user is an active participant in the AR system, paired image and text cues help chunk information and lower cognitive load, and those cues share the remembering with the interface (hello, distributed cognition). The brain gets a tiny co-pilot.
